Dear Wife: The Harry Wood Collection
Friday 22nd May 2026
(Multiple Dates Between Friday 22nd May 2026 & Sunday 28th June 2026)
A highlight this year is our exhibition on local WWII Soldier Harry Wood at the York Residency Museum.
Harry was a York resident who travelled to Egypt with his unit in 1942 to fight in WWII. He later fought at Tarakan in Indonesia and did not return to York until 1945 where he met his four-year-old son (Harry Thorn Wood) for the first time.
We have a large collection of his photographs donated by his son in 2020.
Visitors are invited to share their stories of family members who fought in wars WWI, WW2, Vietnam.
We explore how connecting and communicating with family far away has changed over the years.
