Avon Park & Swinging Bridge

Lowe Street, York

The banks of the Avon River offer a perfect picnic spot with free gas BBQs, picnic tables, shady trees and public toilet facilities.  Take the kids to the newly established skate park, stroll down to the Swinging Bridge and walk along the Avon Walk Trail.

York’s original swinging bridge was first opened in 1888 after petitioning from residents for a footbridge. In 1896 the bridge was lengthened and moved to its current position and has been rebuilt many times due to damage from flood waters.
