York Trails - Wara Art

Wara Art in Australia started in York with the

creation of sculptures made using locally sourced

wheat straw harvested in traditional stooks. With

designs by the founders of Wara Art Japan, Shingo

Miyajima and Masaharu Noguchi, the Australian

sculptures feature Australian endangered fauna.

They form the highlight of The York Festival and

will remain in their new ‘habitats’ until the end of

their natural life.

The Heron's Highway - Follow the

Commencing at the historic swinging bridge,

this 1.5km walk trail meanders along the Avon River

and features fantastic views of Mt Bakewell.

This four kilometre track meanders through bushland,

Marri trees and a stunning range of acacia species.

This trail is approximately 7.5km return or can

be shortened to 3.2km if you leave from the foot 

of Mt Brown.
