YORKids attracts families over the June long weekend

York was inundated with young people and their families over the recent WA day long weekend, with the return of YORKids – A Winter Adventure to the event calendar.

Approx. 6,000 people enjoyed a number of free family activities throughout the town’s parks, historic buildings, reserves and local businesses during the two-day Festival. Popular YORKids favourites Zap Circus & Junkadelic returned, complementing the addition of Kokedama workshops and trucker cap art activities to the Festival program. Due to COVID regulations, pre-registration for some activities were required, with registrations exceeding anticipated numbers well in advance of the event taking place.

Shire President Cr Smythe said "YORKids was identified in Council’s Strategic Community Plan as a mechanism to promote the liveability of York to visiting families and an opportunity to create a sense of pride and place for local young people" It was also great to see many local businesses involved in this year’s YORKids event, Cr Smythe added.

YORKids is a two-day Festival held annually over the June long weekend, delivered by the Shire of York, with grant funding assistance from Healthway to support the Go For 2n5 health message.
