MEDIA RELEASE: 16 March 2020

Last week the Prime Minister announced that the Federal Government is "advising against non-essential public events of 500 people or more". He said the Australian Health Protection Principals Committee had advised that "non-essential, organised gatherings should not go ahead, based on the increasing number of community transmission cases of COVID-19”.

As such, the 2020 York Motorcycle Festival will unfortunately need to be cancelled.

Shire of York CEO said it is unfortunate that this event will not go ahead in 2020, and he thanks everyone for their understanding during this time.

“The York Motorcycle Festival is one of the biggest events in York each year, and brings excitement and activity to the town.”

“It is such a shame that this event cannot go ahead due to the current circumstances, however we all understand how important it is to do our part to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the community.”

“We look forward to the York motorcycle Festival coming back to town in 2021,” Mr Linnell said.

Festival Director Peter Woods said feedback from all those involved in the Festival has so far been positive in the face of the cancellation.

“We are all obviously disappointed. The York Motorcycle Festival is such a popular event that attracts around 6000 people to the town year after year,” he said.

“As the only major Motorcycle Event in WA, it is well supported by the industry, and it is a shame we can’t go ahead with the planned event this April.”

“We will look forward to a big event next year.”

The York Motorcycle Festival will be re-scheduled for April 2021.
