Art Gallery for York Courthouse Complex

The National Trust of Western Australia is pleased to announce that the historic York Courthouse Complex will undergo an exciting transformation.

The complex has been leased to a small team of passionate and professional art lovers, who plan to open the space as a gallery of Western Australian Art.

“This is an exciting reuse of an important heritage place and will contribute to the activation to the main street of York,” said Julian Donaldson, National Trust of Western Australia CEO.

The York Centre for Art and Healing will host a permanent art display, featuring a selection of Western Australian art including pieces made by internationally renowned Aboriginal artists, as well as holding temporary exhibitions.

The owners also plan to have a focus on therapeutic art and to establish a series of workshops run by local artists.

Items will be available for sale, including artworks and Western Australian antiques and collectibles.

It is anticipated the complex will reopen later this year following fit out of the gallery space

Information about the history of this significant place will remain and visitors will be welcome to view the site once it reopens.
