Digging York’s Past - Ask an Archaeologist! (Australian Heritage Festival)

Saturday 18th April 2020

All are welcome to this fascinating talk covering a range of projects conducted by UWA archaeologists over the last 10 years, investigating various aspects of York’s Nyungar, Convict, and Colonial history.

Dr Sean Winter is an archaeologist with a special interest in the history of convictism in Western Australia and throughout the British Empire, and will cover his investigations into the lives of convicts sent to the Avon district.

Dr Sven Ouzman is a rock-art and heritage specialist, who will discuss work conducted at the York Cemetery in conserving graves and mapping the cemetery.

PhD Researcher Janet Osborne is an anthropologist and archaeologist whose study of early Missions in Western Australia is throwing new light onto a subject that has been ‘in the shadows’ for many years.

Come along, meet the archaeologists, and discover these intriguing facets of York’s history in a rare opportunity to take a peep into the cutting edge of history discoveries as they happen.
